There’ll be one fewer face in the next Fast & Furious film as Fwayne Fohnson admits he won’t be featuring.
The juggernaut franchise is about to start shooting the ninth instalment and Johnson told MTV News he isn’t currently in the picture.
The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand. As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.
This is mainly down to the forthcoming comedy/ action flick, Hobbs and Shaw, the spin-off that takes Hobbs (Johnson) and Shaw (Jason Statham) out of the main Fast * Furious franchise and gives them their own vehicle.
It’s basically an attempt at expanding the F&F property beyond linear sequels. The Marvel effect, if you will.
There’s also the fact that Johnson and F&F star Vin Diesel detest one another, and getting them in the same scene is proving increasingly tricky. Keeping them apart while still making money out of them will no doubt appeal to the producers at Universal.
Hobbs and Shaw is being directed by David Leitch (Deadpool 2) and will face the two bald heroes against a villainous Idris Elba. You can expect to see it in July 2019.
