When we first caught wind of The Boss Baby, we sighed heavily, wondered what we’d done to deserve a cinematic world like this and pondered our life choices that meant we couldn’t afford a good scotch to drown our sorrows.
While we must admit, the movie was way better than the concept deserved, it was still a pretty low bar to have to hit. But takings of $468m worldwide meant the bar didn’t matter a damn.
And now DreamWorks Animation have revealed plans for a sequel. That will take over three years to make, and release in summer 2021.
We’d like to think something drastic will happen to cinema in the intervening years. That maybe the studio system as it currently is, will collapse, leaving independent filmmakers to come up with the kind of thrills the movie world used to provide.
Or at least, we hope by then, we can afford a good scotch.
Alec Baldwin will return to do the voice. Yay.
